They call it puppy love

Alanis Morissette talks about her man, her music, the Dalai Lama and happiness. Oh, and her new furry friend, Boogs. Lynn Saxberg reports.

Funny things happen to women as they approach the age of 30. Maybe it's the nesting instinct kicking in or the biological clock counting down. For some, it's time to grow up; for others, it's time to slow down.

Whatever the impetus, the big three-O often prompts a girl into taking stock of her life, evaluating her direction and making changes, if necessary. Alanis Morissette, who celebrates her 30th birthday June 1, has been through the process and is prepared for the milestone. She's found a partner, written a new record, expanded her house and balanced her life so she doesn't fall into the trap of working all the time. She's even been dreaming about having dependents, the Ottawa-born pop star said in a phone interview this week. In her dream, a two-year-old girl steals her heart.

Other projects on the go for Morissette include her cameo in the upcoming film De-Lovely, a musical starring Kevin Kline and Ashley Judd, and narrating, with Keanu Reeves, the documentary The Great Warming, which debuted this week on the Discovery Channel.

Plans are also in the works for a summer tour of the United States with Barenaked Ladies, which may include a couple of Canadian dates.

Keanu Reeves isn't at a loss for things to do now that his Matrix trilogy is finished. Us Weekly reports that the actor was engaged in a "no-holds-barred, 10-minute make-out session" with actress Autumn Macintosh after a lunch date recently in Santa Monica, Calif. "They were really getting into it, leaning in and touching," the magazine's spy says.

Reeves does like the ladies. Last year, he told Cosmo magazine, "It's always wonderful to get to know women, with the mystery and the joy and the depth. If you can make a woman laugh, you're seeing the most beautiful thing on God's Earth."

If this acting thing doesn't work out, Reeves can always get a job at Hallmark.

More superheroes ready to hit big screen

Superman, Batman, Spider-Man and The Hulk already have flown, skulked, climbed and smashed their way to the big screen, with respectable success.

So who's next?

Hellboy, Constantine, Catwoman, Punisher, Iron Man, Luke Cage and a host of other also-rans, as Hollywood looks for the next superhero franchise.

Next February, Keanu Reeves plays the moody mystic John Constantine, straight from the pages of DC's "Hellblazer" comic, in a film directed by Francis Lawrence. Constantine is an "irreverent supernatural detective, not really a hero," the director said.

Constantine has been a player in the DC universe since he helped show the shambling Swamp Thing his true purpose. He's a British master of black arts, not beyond bargaining with the devil to get what he wants. In the film, Constantine teams with a cop to solve the mysterious suicide of her twin sister.

Final 'Matrix' DVD is ready to ponder

It's involved, confusing, exciting, eye-catching and now you can watch at home to figure it out

With the release of the final installment of "The Matrix" trilogy, fans and newbies can contemplate the meaning of "The Matrix" in its entirety in the comfort of their own home.

What the Matrix is, is the topic of much discussion and interpretation. Here is one explanation.

The Matrix is a universe created by machines for humans to take part in while the machines harvest the humans for energy. This Matrix is the world that we live in.

In the final installment of the trilogy, the heroes are trying to save Zion, the "real world" in the film. They are forced to battle incoming machines in an effort to save many lives.

Do you get it now?

It may be no surprise, it is even more complicated than that.

The final installment, "The Matrix Revolutions," is divided into two story lines. One consists of the war against the machines and the other is Neo's (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity's (Carrie-Anne Moss) journey to the machine homeworld.

As much as I enjoyed watching an army of human-controlled robots battle invading sentinels, my favorite action sequence was the final, and most anticipated, battle between Neo, the messiah of the movies, and Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving).

This "Super Burly Brawl" takes place in the pouring rain and consists of explosive punches and dazzling water effects while the two rivals majestically soar through the air. The video and sound effects translate very well to DVD.

"The Matrix Revolutions" DVD is a very nice package. Disc one contains trailers and Web links, but disc two contains a wide variety of extra features. Some notable extras are a lengthy look at the entire movie, a segment on how the special effects were done, and a behind the scenes of the "Super Burly Brawl." There is a look at every little aspect of the movie on this disc, which is more than I would care to watch, but great for die-hard fans.

What lies in store for Matrix fans in the future? On the disc, you will also find a look at the new videogame, "The Matrix Online," which expands on the universe, and allows players to interact with others over the internet.

Egypt cuts God lines from 'The Matrix'

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) — The final installment of "The Matrix" trilogy has made it past Egyptian censors with only minor cuts, the chief film censor said, noting it was an easier route to Egyptian theaters than the first two movies.

From Our Advertiser

Madkour Thabit, head of the state-run censorship body responsible for audio and visual productions, told The Associated Press on Thursday that the focus of "The Matrix Revolutions" was different from the first two films.

"It depends on action and high technology ... without focusing on philosophic and religious meditations," he said.

Censors cut a shot of a topless girl at a nightclub party and two sentences in which the lead character, Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, proclaims himself both implicitly and explicitly as God, Thabit said.

The 15-member committee made up of film critics, professors, writers and psychologists accepted the movie last week. Trailers are now playing in most Egyptian movie theaters, he said.

"The Matrix Revolutions" is the final chapter in the Wachowski brothers' sci-fi trilogy. The movie opened in U.S. theaters last November.

The first film, "The Matrix," was shown in Egypt but was immediately criticized by some Islamic newspapers that claimed it espoused Zionism.

Censors banned the next installment, "The Matrix Reloaded," citing religious grounds. But distributors appealed the ban and the film was later allowed in movie theaters.
