Summary of explosion event on Valentine's day,2002 This topic contains spoilers.
From:Daliy Telegraph Source:Countingdown.com THOUSANDS of people turned out last night to watch a little piece of The Matrix before it hits Sydney screens. The former power station at White Bay was the site of an explosion for the sequel to the hit film, being filmed in Sydney. The Anzac Bridge was closed and fire and ambulance crews placed on standby for the explosion. Spectators lined every available vantage point for the event, with many even climbing on to rock piles on the docks for the best view. Crew on the set gave a five-minute warning before the explosion was triggered at 11.20pm. The blast lit up the area briefly, with the fireball reaching at least 15m into the air. A plume of smoke spread into the air and across the City-West link. But when the explosion came, many of the watchers were disappointed in their glimpse of Hollywood magic. Cries of "Is that it?" could be heard from all angles once the fireball had died away.
From:Coming soon.net The Matrix Reloaded Set ReportThursday, February 14, 2002 10:38 CST'Frosty' was able to get a glimpse at the explosion for "The Matrix" sequels which took place at the rear of Sydney's White Bay Power Station on Feb. 14th and sent us this cool bit... I live in Sydney, Australia. As you probably already know they're shooting THE MATRIX sequels here, like they did the first film. I was lucky enough last night to hear they were filming parts of it in the inner city suburb of BALMAIN. They were filming near a huge abadoned warehouse, I couldn't get very close and they had high walls up all around the set. The onlookers did however get to see a big and very loud explosion that rose well above the walls and left smoke trailing long after. I didn't get to see much, but there were people who had broken in to get a better look so perhaps they'll have a better scoop. But I though I'd write in to let you know, now I finally have SOMETHING to tell. Much appreciated 'Frosty', keep the set reports coming

SPOILERS - BANG! There goes White Bay Power Station -- I was there. Again! An hour ago, I was overlooking the set-up they had constructed at the White Bay Power Station. We had found an empty space between two buildings that had a direct view of the setup, and we could see quite a lot. The crew had it set up like a tennis stadium, four high wooden-backed walls (I couldn't see the inside) with many bright stadium-style lights shining in. There were also lights inside the walls, which I couldn't see but the light itself was shining out the top. What I could see of the inside walls was all white with a few sections of green in the middle at the bottom. Two of the walls, closest to the Anzac Bridge, were double the height, and had large freight containers backing them up. A container-sized room was behind one also, we saw people go into this room and when they came out the lights on a platform above them came on quite bright, so I'm assuming it was a control room. Everyone who was walking anywhere near the complex was behind clear hand-held blast shields so we guessed there wasn't anybody inside the walls for safety reasons. There were security type people with flashing lights that looked like they were going to try and land a light aircraft inside the Power Station. Suddenly the lights intensified and the flashy light men flashed their lights even faster. The explosion itself reminded me of driving very fast over a short, loose-planked wooden bridge. The bulk of the fire was coming from the corner with high walls, which leads me to believe that maybe in the other corner they had the cameras to film it. The fire contained a lot of debris in it, but nothing that could show what exactly was being blown up, and a lot of smoke was generated. City-bound traffic on the bridge had been stopped so that was empty, and nobody could see anything for there, however from our spot a lot could be seen. Directly after it happened a man came by and said "That was it. Thankyou all for coming" then hopped on his radio and said that they "had a pedestrian problem". When we left, a fire-truck came past, and was slowed down by said pedestrian problem. Anyway, I'm much of tired, so I must sleep. If you have any questions about the explosion you can email me at nerje@thematrixonline.com, or if you have your own experience to share you can do so at The Zion Switchboard. Thanks for reading.Nerje p.s. Channel 7 News was there, so if Australians want to see what I'm talking about, watch the Friday 15th broadcast - it should be there.
From:Corona Coming Attraction February 13, 2002... Residents who live near Sydney's White Bay Power Station received the following letter in their mailboxes this week from the Matrix office:
Dear Resident The timing is set for as early as we could hold city bound traffic on the Anzac Bridge, and as late as local residents could reasonably bear with due warning. Either way we do apologize for the possible interruption to your evening. If the weather is bad, we would then reschedule for Friday night the 15th of February. All relevant authorities have been notified of our activity. Signed,Peter Lawless, Location Manager If it's a successful Valentine's Day, there might be a lot more else going off at 11:25 PM too. [Thanks to Jean Prouvaire for sending this one in.]

From:Anthonyjhicks.com (The detail is here.) Explosion on the Sydney Matrix set planned for February 14Logged Tuesday, 1st January 2002 - Movies - Related<> "OPn February 14, the Matrix production will be filming at the gigantic White Bay power station near Sydney. A development application has been lodged to build a $200,000 film set for The Matrix Reloaded at the inner-western landmark, which stopped operating as a coal-fired power station in 1983. The plan is to explode the set, and cause a 20m high fireball at midnight on February 14. The explosion will last three to five seconds, and could reach a sound of 110 decibels. A chainsaw or average rock concert produces about 110 decibels of noise. The explosion needs to occur at midnight to ensure maximum darkness."
