SPOILERS - Inside information: some confirmations -- Here's some burly news for you all

News : Movies : The Matrix: Reloaded :

I recieved this awesome EMail today and it holds some great little gems of information. It once again clarifies Smith's ability to multiply, and the more I hear about it the more I realise that this will be one of the most awesome things we will see in the sequels.

We already know of one or two other ships appearing in the films, but does "some" make reference to more than two? It would be great if we saw a fleet of hovercraft locked in battle with a swarm of laser-wielding squiddies, deep in the Earth's old sewers and caverns... heh, I gotta stop, my imagination is working on overdrive.

This is Darth Aeroplane, just thought you might want to know this: I spoke to one of the special FX guys for the Matrix 2 & 3. He'd also helped with the Matrix video game and had talked to Keanu and some other people. He wasn't able to tell me much about the plot of the sequels, but he told me some stuff about the sequels, nothing too big:

First, he told me that there were "a lot of cool things that people have never seen before." He said that in the sequels, we will learn more about the "whole story" of the Matrix. After I mentioned the White Bay Power Station, he said that they have blown up all kinds of stuff. Then, he just started talking about random parts of the movie.

He told me that there are a lot more agents, and that they can multiply. I asked him if it was true that Neo would fight 100 Agent Smith's. He said that scene was really cool, and was referred to as the "Burly Brawl" back at the studios (because of the "Burly Man" fake title). I know there was a lot of confusion as to whether Neo would fight 100 Agent Smith's or 100 copies of himself, but he confirmed that Neo would fight 100 Agent Smith's. He also mentioned that Neo and Agent Smith have a cool fight on top of a bus.

He told me there are more "squiddy things" (Sentinels) than in the first movie.

He told me there are some more ships.

He also said that he and some other special FX guys looked at some matrix fan sites while they were working, and that the sites already knew a lot about the movie.

He couldn't really tell me much else, since he was sworn to secrecy and all.

Is Carrie-Anne Moss leaving us? While accepting a Best Supporting Actress statuette for her work in MOMENTO at last weekend's Spirit Awards, Moss hinted she might relocate to Australia.

The actress, who's spent considerable time down under shooting the two MATRIX sequels said,"I'd love to live in Australia. They really do work to live and we could take a lesson from the Aussies.”

Speaking of MATRIX, Moss said "We have four more months (shooting the two films back to back), it will have been two years total."

Claiming the first time she read the MEMENTO script it was like"the greatest book I've ever read,” Moss said she liked shooting in LA because"as a bonus they used to fill my car up every day with gas!"

On Set With Matrix 2

06/03/2002

Having a slow day at work? Well rub the boredom from your eyes and listen up because US show Entertainment Tonight paid a set visit to a certain production by the brothers Wachowski and video interviews with Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne now await your viewing pleasure.

Undoubtedly a high point in next year's movie calendar, The Matrix Reloaded and its sequel are halfway done, and, by all accounts, destined to be utterly brilliant.

"It's pushed me to my limits," said Reeves. "Before it was like, 'Can you do two kicks?' and now it's like, 'Can you do three kicks, but with a jumping backspin hook-kick?' So it's like you have learned to walk -- now can you fly."

According to Jada Pinkett-Smith: "These sequels are going to blast the original off the screen, and that's exactly what the fans want."

Steve in line for sci-fi epic

By PHILLIP KOCH
03mar02

HOME-GROWN Matrix star Steve Bastoni is in "preliminary talks" to co-star in The Last Man with Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Cate Blanchett. "I'm in preliminary talks with casting people," confirmed Bastoni, who is still filming Matrix 2 with Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne. The Last Man is being produced by Village Roadshow – the same company that produces the Matrix films – and has been reported to be a "science-fiction epic" in a "post-Matrix vein".

It is only one of several projects Bastoni has in the pipeline for the next 12 months.

"I have a few balls in the air and we'll just wait and see what happens," the affable screen hunk with the rock-star lifestyle said.

Bastoni is looking forward to starting rehearsals for Oliver, The Musical in April – even though he hasn't sung in a decade. He last sang professionally when he starred in a stage production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with Stuart Wagstaff and Russell Crowe in 1987.

The latest project will reunite him with Wagstaff.

Bastoni is also in discussions with casting agents about a new Warner Bros television series.

Where to see the stars in Sydney

By PHILLIP KOCH

YOU may think no-one could miss Keanu Reeves in a crowd but the Matrix star doesn't need special effects to disguise himself in Sydney. "Who hasn't met Keanu?" sniffed one city restaurateur. The film hunk has become such a fixture in Sydney, his regular forays into clubs, restaurants and bars, rarely even rate a mention.

Sydney socialite Rick Walton didn't even initially notice it was Reeves when the movie star sat down next to him at the Tatler restaurant in Darlinghurst.

"He pulled up a chair next to me," confirmed Walton, "and he seemed like a really down-to-earth guy."

Walton is no stranger to celebrities – after squiring Texan bombshell Jerry Hall around Sydney after she split with Mick Jagger. But you don't need to date a supermodel to meet international models, musicians or movie stars in Sydney.

NO BODYGUARDS

MATRIX co-star Carrie-Anne Moss can be found shopping at Paddington Markets or in Oxford or Crown streets on the weekend.

"She often does a quick shop on her way to fight training for the movie," confided top shoe designer Justine Pratten.

The first time Moss, who shops without minders or bodyguards, went to the markets, she was even mistaken for someone else.

"Aren't you the girl from the Special K ad," hollered one stallholder.

Embarrassment notwithstanding, Moss snapped up a pair of flat cream crystal thongs, pink and white kitten heels and mule cork wedges from Pratten.

But top of every star's shopping list is Collette Dinnigan – and most celebrities bypass the store and head to her Surry Hills studio.

The designer won't confirm she is making Sarah Michelle Gellar's wedding dress but how else to explain the amount of time the Buffy star spent in her studio last year?

Gellar and many other foreign beauties also shop at Belinda, the smart designer store in Paddington, although owner Belinda Seper never comments on her clients.

OCEAN VIEWS

BONDI Beach remains the easiest place in Sydney to spot a star and you will find famous faces in the cafes, restaurants or on the sand in this cool pop star precinct.

Britney Spears frolicked there with her bodyguards in September, while actor Natalie Portman made it her second home during filming of Star Wars Episode Two.

Claire Danes, Terence Stamp, Harvey Keitel, Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne are also Bondi fans – and can be seen eating at Hugos and Jackies or sipping coffee at Gusto or Brown Sugar.

When Julia Roberts and Benjamin Bratt were here two years ago they also joined the Bondi push – eating at the Bondi Tratt and Hugos.

Jerry Hall sipped champagne at Pier restaurant, while Jodie Kidd whooped it up at CityLive at Fox Studios after she finished sashaying down the catwalk.

Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and almost every international guest makes at least one pitstop at Tatler. Owner Davis Davis never comments on who gets in to Tatler but Reeves and Fishburne drop in there almost every week because of its exclusivity.

The Matrix duo also regularly drink at Justin Hemme's private club, Hemmesphere – the last time Reeves was in he was drinking a mixed berry cocktail.

When Jamiroquai was in Sydney in January, he spent all his downtime in Hemmesphere telling friends it was a "cracking place".

Sting and Jeremy Irons both also enjoyed the plush surrounds of Hemmesphere, while Jerry O'Connell mixed with the public in the Establishment bar downstairs. British pop star, Robbie Williams told people he thought the Establishment's boutique hotel was the best inn he had stayed at in the world.

He and Jamiroquai both also were seen drinking at the Fox and Lion Hotel at Fox Studios, which has also played host to Mickey Rooney, Russell Crowe and Kylie Minogue.

PERSONAL PREFERENCE

PICK any top restaurant and you can be sure it has played host to the international jet set – but Aria seems to be the current favourite.

Tom Cruise took Penelope Cruz there for dinner with Cameron Crowe, while John Travolta tucked into a fillet mignon at Aria. ER star Eriq La Salle popped in there earlier this month.

Power couple of the moment speak

Dateline: Friday, March 1, 2002
By: CHRISTOPHER ALLAN SMITH

The Smith family has some things to say about three of the most anticipated genre films on the horizon, MEN IN BLACK 2 and the next two MATRIX films. While talking to Cindy Pearlman, Will Smith and Jada-Pinkett Smith let fly on both films.

About MIB, Smith gushed, "It was the easiest thing in the world for Tommy Lee Jones and me to get back together again. It just felt natural,・he said, adding the shoot, "was just too much fun."

Then Jada-Pinkett Smith dropped this about her work on the MATRIX films, it's "exhilarating and challenging. I've been on my own training mission. The people I've worked with said I missed my calling which is doing stunts. I think it's just so cool to push yourself to the extreme."
