News

HI Everyone,

I know you are all plagued with questions about the status of the band and are wondering why the webmaster hasn't posted any news. Well, for the simple fact that there really isn't any news to report. Nothing has changed in a few months. All three members are currently involved in other projects, but have not forgotten the band. It is just a question of when they are going to get back together.

Keanu is obviously involved in his movie which is going to begin filming soon. Rob is currently working on new music with his girlfriend-it's something of a punk band (they recently did a Viper Room gig). And Bret is still working on solo project stuff and getting ready to produce some new talent. They still have an offer to tour Japan again this year but we are unsure of the status because they really wanted to have new material to perform. We are just not sure if they are going to go or not. The idea was to record a new album and release it themselves, but they just can't seem to get on the same page.

It isn't a question of whether or not the guys want to still perform, but maybe (and this is only my opinion from being around them) after eight years of working together they needed this time apart to explore their creative differences. They all have some unique musical styles and maybe they were not afforded the opportunity, until now, to work those areas. Once they have had the chance to build on their individual styles, perhaps they will work towards coming together again to make a new album.

So please be patient and don't get angry at the webmaster for not giving updates...there just aren't any to give. But, as soon as something changes you guys will be the first to know.

Cheers,

Jem

The New Band

HI Everyone,

Wow, lots of worry going around now. I noticed someone had reposted a previous letter of mine and I thank you for that. Trying to clear things up seems to be a bit difficult. Yes, the band Rob is playing in is called "Becky" which is the name of his girlfriend. Keanu started off helping them out in the beginning by playing bass (he hadn't started filming yet and had some spare time) because they didn't have anyone to do that. I don't believe he is a permanent fixture in the band. I could be wrong, but he has already told Bret he didn't want to let things die with DogStar and wants to play again.

The show they had Saturday night at the Roxy was not attended by either myself or Bret because we didn't hear about it until the day before and both of us already had previous plans for the weekend. However, we did attend their first show a few months ago. So, I have no idea how the show went and who was there.

I have not posted information about "Becky" like I do with Bret's solo project because I am closer to Bret than I am with Rob. Don't look into that statment too much, we just hang out in different social circles than Rob. And to be quite honest I probably won't be giving information about his band because of that. I will certainly answer questions if I can, but like I said I hang out in different social circles so I don't see them quite as often and really don't have that kind of information on them. I'm sure there are sites you guys can find to get the show dates.

As far as Keanu goes for the band, I don't think he means to be a permanent part of it, but who knows. The whole reason Dogstar is on a break is because he is too busy with other filming projects and doesn't really have time to be in a band at all. He began helping Rob and Becky out in the beginning, but as far as him continuing on with the band and touring, etc, etc I highly doubt it. This could certainly change, but he put DogStar on hold because he doesn't have the time. He joins in with Becky when he does have the time but that is all. I believe they had to cancel a show a few weeks ago because Keanu was out of town. I don't believe he does any of the writing and only pops in to reherse before a show, but don't quote me on that one ^_^ So don't feel like Rob and Keanu are cutting Bret out and getting a new singer. I think Becky does the writing of all the songs...I'm sure the others contribute, but she does most of it herself.

As far as DogStar goes, Bret has been wanting to get them to reherse and write a new album but Keanu doesn't have the time right now to devote to that and Rob is obviously working elsewhere. Keanu said he would be ready to get back with the band in the Summer when his filming was over and he has a few months off. He has shown Bret a fierce amount of interest in not letting the band die off. But, we shall see.

As you guys all know, when it comes to schedules and commitments it is hard to rely on Keanu because of movies. He is fiercely loyal and a man of his word, but if he can't really juggle DogStar right now, he certainly can't juggle a new band and be committed to writing, rehersing, touring, travelling, etc, etc. He happily jumps in and helps out when he's in town, but when he isn't things like cancelling shows becomes a common thing. Hopefully it will work out for Becky and the band, but I think DogStar has every intention of getting started up again in the Summer. Only time will tell.

Like usual, this information can change...and most likely will ^_^ All we can do is hope DogStar wants to get together as much as we want them too. Not only that, but Bret is thinking about doing another show for his own solo project. He was taking a break himself because he needed some time away from the guitar, but I think he is ready to get back to work. Don't get too excited yet because he hasn't planned anything...but he is in the rehersal hall now playing with the band...we'll see.

Cheers,

Jem
