KEANU WOWS WITH NEW BAND

Just weeks after scoring a record-breaking smash at the box office with THE MATRIX RELOADED, KEANU REEVES has got Hollywood all abuzz again - with a new pop band.

Reeves' weekend shows with hobby group BECKY in Tinseltown were sell-outs, and even record company executives couldn't get access to the shows.

The actor-turned-bass player is taking time off from his other group, DOGSTAR, to perform with pal REBECCA LORD's band.

The quartet performed at Los Angeles' TROUBADOUR club on Friday night (06JUN03), the MUSICIANS' UNION on Saturday (07JUN03) and they finished off at THE VIPER ROOM last night (09JUN03).

Reeves prepared for his weekend shows by dining with his bandmates at THE FLAVOR OF INDIA restaurant on Friday evening (06JUN03), where he told fans he was really looking forward to performing live before an audience again.

One music executive, who failed to get access to the Troubadour show, says, "It seems Keanu's fans really know their stuff - no one thought this Becky gig would be a sell-out. It seems people know exactly who they are."

(Burbank, California-AP) -- Keanu Reaves is now targeting a much younger audience -- pre-schoolers -- on a show on the Disney Channel. He's not on camera. But, one of his bands is doing the theme song for a new cartoon show called ``JoJo's Circus.'' The band isn't Dogstar. It's his other band --''becky'' with a lower-case ``b.'' Rebecca Lord from the Seattle version of ``The Real World'' is the lead singer of becky. And, Reaves plays bass. ``JoJo's Circus'' debuts September 30th.

Who says that reality TV stars are allotted only 15 minutes of fame? Kimberly Potts of E! Online reports that MTV's Real World: Seattle houseguest Rebecca Lord, a Virginia native who was an aspiring 19-year-old singer during that show, is now fronting a group named "becky." The bass player in becky is none other than Hollywood matinee idol (and star of The Matrix trilogy) Keanu Reeves.

becky now has its own web site, featuring downloads of several tunes. According to this Keanu Reeves fansite, Rebecca is currently the girlfriend of becky drummer Rob Mailhouse, who is one of Keanu's old friends (and plays with him in the band Dogstar). The fourth member of becky is guitarist Paulie Kosta, aka Durnan Sawchuk. The band has apparently been together for two to three months. ADVERTISEMENT

We wish Rebecca and becky the band the best of luck in this new venture. Maybe it's just that we like to hear that there is something going on in the world of music other than American Idol. ..
