Macho Keanu Is A Real Mama's Boy

Although he plays a tough gunslinger in The Matrix movies, Keanu Reeves, 41, is a real mama's boy at heart. A source close to Keanu's mom, Patric, 62, a costume designer who's been married four times, says Keanu hardly makes a move without her. "They talk on the phone almost every day. He asks her advice on everything, even movie roles," the source confided to Star People. "And I don't think the woman has seen a bill in 20 years. Keanu has them all sent to his accountant," the insider added. "He takes her shopping and buys her whatever she wants -- jewelery, clothes, you name it! And Patric has impeccable taste; everything is top of the line."

The red carpet just got a little deeper. And it ought to be - with the likes of Keanu Reeves, Viggo Mortensen and Virginia Madsen planning to walk down it on Jan. 7 as awards presenters at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala.

Festival Board Chairman Earl Greenburg confirmed Wednesday night that Reeves would be presenting The Desert Palm Achievement Award to Charlize Theron, who appeared with him in the 1997 box office hit "Devil's Advocate."

"We ask each of our honorees to tell us who would be very special in their lives that they would like to present the award," Greenbrg said.

"Charlize Theron said she would love Keanu Reeves to present it and he said he would," Greenburg said in a telephone interview from his home.

Then, he let fly the names of the other stars who had agreed to be presenters.

Mortensen, best known for his role in the "Lord of The Rings" films, will present the Visionary Award to David Cronenberg, who directed him in this year's "A History of Violence."

Cronenberg, the director of "Crash" and other films noted for their revolutionary approaches, sought out Mortensen specifically for the role in the film about violence in smalltown U.S.A.

Producer Michael London, of this year's "The Family Stone" and last year's smash hit "Sideways," will receive his award from actress Madsen, Greenburg said.

Madsen, whose performance in last year's "Sideways" had critics and awards shows buzzing, was a presenter at the 2005 festival."We consider her a friend of the festival and we're delighted she'll be here," said Greenburg, whose Chairman's Screening at last year's festival featured "Sideways."

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal, actress Shirley MacLaine, film composer Thomas Newman and "Desperate Housewives" star Felicity Huffman are also among the honorees at the gala.

MacLaine, who is receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award, had three films released in 2005 with "Rumor Has It," which is due to open Christmas Day, "In Her Shoes" and "Bewitched."

The Palm Springs International Film Festival was founded by late Palm Springs Mayor Sonny Bono and today is one of the largest in North America.

This year's schedule features more than 230 films from more than 70 nations.

Festivalgoers can see several world, North American and U.S. film premieres.

Greenburg, who has been the board chairman of the star-studded event for three years, said even he was beginning to be impressed with the lineup for the gala, though he thought it would be difficult to top last year's festival - which featured awards presented to Nicole Kidman, Samuel L. Jackson and Liam Neeson - for starpower.

"We went after people who we believed were related to significant and relevant films," Greenburg said.

Luckily, they also happened to be movie stars.

Keanu Reeves is poor

Canadian Business Magazine compiled its annual top 100 richest Canadians list for 2005. Apparently, being an A-list celebrity doesn't get you automatically on the list. According to CBM, actor Keanu Reeves tumbled from the list of Canada's 100 richest in 2005 and he was bottom of the pile last year with a mere $336 million. So that makes Keanu Reeves what, the 101 richest Canadian now? Singer Celine Dion also dropped off the top 100 list in 2004 and actor Jim Carrey in 2003. Oh, those po' folk celebrities. More Keanu Reeves and his motorcycle pictures (2x).

Manson Nups for Kilkenny

By Debbie McGoldrick

The weird Goth rocker Marilyn Manson has chosen Co. Kilkenny, of all places, for his January nuptials to stripper Dita Von Teese.

God only knows why the oddball couple chose Kilkenny, but according to the county paper, the Kilkenny People, preparations are at an advanced stage, and all involved have been sworn to secrecy.

But clearly there are bigmouths in the posse, because several local businesses have been booked by the couple to provide services, and all have had to sign confidentiality agreements not to talk to the dastardly press about what’s going on.

An estate outside of Kilkenny city has been booked for a week, and guests will arrive at the nuptials via helicopter. The newspaper is not revealing the name of the estate because “if the venue is disclosed there is every chance that Manson will pull out of Ireland and choose to get married somewhere else.” So much for hard-hitting journalism!

Who’s on the guest list? The paper says that the chosen ones include Madonna and Guy Ritchie, the Osbournes, Keanu Reeves, Nicolas Cage and Mandy Moore. A paparazzi dream for sure, but we can’t see all those folks trekking to Kilkenny in the middle of the ice-cold Irish winter!
