Review of Dogstar @ The Roxy

Dogstar at The Roxy last night was great! The theatre was sold out and the crowd was very enthusiastic. This will be just a quick rundown of the show since I'm not very good about remembering play lists etc. Opening band was Bottlefly and they were excellent, the best opening band Dogstar has ever had .

Dogstar came on about 10:30 and played for approximately one hour.

Wardrobe: Keanu was dressed in his usual black t-shirt, faded black jeans and unfortunately I never got a glimpse of his feet so I don't know if he was wearing "those" boots...although I would be very surprised if he wasn't. His hair was at that great length, "spiky" on top and covering the nape of his neck with about a week's worth of beard. Bret was dressed in black, button shirt and black slacks. Rob was in shorts and a t-shirt,I believe he was also in black.

Concert: They were all very animated and "worked" the crowd. I was very proud of Keanu because he rarely looked down at his feet the entire night. He constantly made eye contact with the crowd and really appeared to enjoy himself. He would "zone", really getting into his music, closing his eyes but he didn't look down which was terrific. I've always loved seeing Dogstar but I must admit I would be disappointed when Keanu spent so much time looking down and not "connecting" with the audience. Last night was a very different Keanu! And I mean that in a very complimentary way. He and Bret would get together and see who could out riff the other which was fun to watch. There were great exchanges between Keanu and the audience. A couple of times Keanu appeared to shake hands and either accept something or give something to a few people in the audience. He also blew one or two kisses to someone towards the left in the audience. A number of times, as he really got into the music, he would do this thing with his tongue which was adorable to say the least! Can you tell that I felt that this was by far the best performance I have ever witnessed of Keanu with Dogstar .

Brett was great but he appeared to be a little tired but still enthusiastic. He was great with the audience and commented at one point to a female fan right in front to "wait for it...c'mon your a girl you're used to it" which took Keanu by surprise and made him laugh. I believe Brett was referring to her waiting for him to actually announce which song they were going to play before she got all excited.

Rob was hot on those drums. He appeared to enjoy watching Brett and Keanu "work" the audience.

Brett was a little frustrated by some feedback from his amplifier. Keanu's amplifier was trouble free for this concert. I apologize that I don't remember the entire playlist. I know they played Stagger, Cornerstore, Alarming, Blown Away and I think Washington, but I'm not sure about that one. They played one or two songs from Our Little Visionary. Brett did a solo encore of a song which I didn't recognize and Solitary Man (the Neil Diamond song) which was great. Keanu and Rob joined Brett for an encore after Solitary Man. As Keanu walked by Brett he patted him on the back for his great solo and then said something like "That was Brett time" which caught Brett off guard and he asked Keanu what he said but Keanu didn't respond he just walked over to his guitar.

It was a terrific concert, the best Dogstar concert I've witnessed thus far!
