Review of Dogstar @ San Diego
Date: 11/09/00

Dogstar appeared in all their glory Sunday night in San Diego. This is the first time they've actually come to the city proper to play, and I'm proud to say that San Diego gave them a good turn out and an enthusiastic reception. There were two bands before Dogstar and I sorry I didn't get their names. I admit I was just there for Dogstar. Dogstar came on about 10:15pm and played until 11:20pm. It started out rather slow as I think people were shocked to see just three band members. Also, tables and chairs had been placed on the floor right up to the stage and people were not allowed to stand. At one point Bret said something about why weren't people dancing or standing, and then the guards let everyone get up and go to the stage. It got loud and rocking then. Keanu was the proud recipient of a black bra, panties, a jock strap, and roses. The jock strap seemed to really amuse him as he got this really big smile and laughed after he picked it up and realized what it was. He kicked the bra up with is foot and caught it in the air. He put all his gifts on the speaker behind him. Fashion report: K was in jeans, boots, faded green v-neck t-shirt. Hair was spiked and several days of beard growth. Bret was a vision in black and his hair was long on the sides. Rob was in long pants.

The band was tight and sounded great. Bret and K did a little dueling rift. Bret just kept it up and K just started laughing at him. Rob joined in and they let him do a little solo bit. Bret did announce they had two celebrities there that night and pointed to a closed section and said that Russell Crowe was there to check out their band....this was just a joke...I think. Sorry, I couldn't hear the rest of what he said....I was in the nose bleed section of the balcony. Bret did a solo which was just wonderful. Sorry, I don't remember what it was he sang....but I loved it. The band came out and did three more songs. Bret thanked everyone for coming out on a Sunday night and they left the stage. All the people at the stage were holding out their hands for K, and he went down the line just touching and shaking hands as he left the stage. The band seemed to enjoy San Diego and San Diego certainly enjoyed the band.

I'm glad to finally have something to share in the Garden. Thanks Dogstar!
