Update: Reeves Questioned by Police

21-Mar-2007
Written by: McKenna Lowry

Keanu Reeves was handcuffed and questioned by police officers in Torrance, California, Tuesday, after he struck a photographer with his car.

Alison Silva, a Brazilian paparazzo, has alleged that Reeves purposefully turned his car around in order to hit her, Tuesday, and then attempted to flee the scene. Silva was treated for a broken wrist and other injuries.

Reeves claims he was pulling away from the curb and heard, “Ah, my knee,” and at that point pulled over. The police eventually released him and last night a witness denied that Reeves had ever turned around to hit the photographer.

Keanu Reeves

March 22, 2007

Keanu Reeves has been questioned by police after he allegedly ran over a paparazzi. The Hollywood star allegedly hit Brazilian photographer Alison Silva with his black Porsche as he left a Californian clinic and then reportedly tried to flee the scene.

Brazilian Silva - who was thrown over the bonnet of the car - said he thought he was going to die.

He said: "I have never had anybody going after me like this - like he wanted to kill me."

"The car hit me straight in the knees, straight in the knees, I was in shock, a lot of pain."

The pair clashed after Silva started taking pictures of the 42-year-old actor as he left a clinic in Torrance, California.

An onlooker added: "Alison was snapping shots. Keanu was parked 25 yards away. I saw Keanu drive straight at him, then back into the driveway."

Police were immediately called to the scene and questioned Reeves before releasing him.

Silva - who was treated for a broken wrist and other injuries - claimed Reeves didn't apologise, although he was shocked at what he had done.

A police spokesperson said: "Mr Reeves said he was trying to pull away from the kerb. As he pulled away the photographer called out, 'Ah, my knee' and Mr Reeves pulled over."

Police will decide whether the star faces charges within the next week. - Bang Showbiz

Keanu Reeves was behind the wheel of a Porsche that allegedly grazed a celebrity photographer standing in the path of the sports car, AP news agency said.

The photographer fell to the ground and paramedics were called after Reeves’ car allegedly struck the man at 7:30 p.m. Monday, said Deputy Ed Hernandez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“He grazed a paparazzi standing in front of his Porsche and the man fell to the ground,” Hernandez said. It wasn’t known how fast the Porsche was traveling at the time.

Reeves’ lawyer, Jay Lavely, said Tuesday that the incident “appears to have been brought on more by the actions of the paparazzo than by the actions of Mr. Reeves.”

“The paparazzo, who had followed Mr. Reeves to Palos Verdes, was standing in front of Mr. Reeves’ car blocking his way when Mr. Reeves got into his car to leave. Mr. Reeves assumed that he would move away when he started to slowly inch the car away from the curb,” Lavely said.

The Sheriff’s Department was investigating the incident.

Jeff Giles writes: "In his continued quest to lead a news item every day this week, Shia LaBeouf tells Sci Fi Wire that he was caught off-guard by recent reports that Warner Bros. is in talks with Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz to reprise their roles in a sequel to 2005's "Constantine."

"Wow, I didn't think he would jump back on," said LaBoeuf when asked about reports that the Hollywood Reporter had spoken to Reeves about the proposed sequel. "Keanu went through a lot of s--t with that movie."

While the original's cold critical reception and brief theatrical run may not have screamed "sequel," "Constantine" did go on to gross roughly $132 million between its first-run and home video releases, and during a year in which the stars of a series of commercials for an insurance company can get a pilot deal, "Constantine 2" sounds like "Citizen Kane."
